The Indians 'America would prepare the skin for use with a technique of tanning very special, probably unique in the world. The skin in fact, after being cleaned of debris and shaved meat was immersed in a mixture obtained by boiling water in the brain of the same animal. After absorbing the mixture for a time the same was then squeezed to remove residue remained, and worked on a frame so as to break the fibers. The result was, and is a skin from the exceptional quality, extremely soft, yet durable and washable in water with some changes.
